This is the sixth Trade Policy Review of Singapore by the World Trade Organization (WTO). Singapore’s period under review (2008-2011) was marked by an unprecedented global economic crisis. Amidst an increasingly challenging post-crisis landscape, Singapore is committed to keeping our markets open and promoting fair and active competition. To ensure that growth is both sustainable and inclusive, Singapore will undertake long-term economic reforms to increase productivity and innovation and strengthen our social infrastructure.

La economía y el comercio mundiales en 2013 y comienzos de 2014
En 2013, el comercio mundial de mercancías siguió creciendo a un ritmo moderado del 2,2%, casi idéntico al incremento en el 2,3% del año anterior. Tanto en 2012 como en 2013, el crecimiento fue inferior al promedio del 5,3% de los 20 últimos años, y también considerablemente inferior al promedio del 6% de los 20 años inmediatamente anteriores a la crisis de 2008-2009. El volumen del comercio mundial de mercancías siguió aumentando lentamente durante los primeros meses de 2014 a un ritmo del 2,1% en el primer trimestre, en comparación con el mismo período de 2013. El incremento anual previsto irá en aumento a medida que la economía mundial cobra impulso a lo largo del año.
Integrated Trade Intelligence Portal (I-TIP)
The Integrated Trade Intelligence Portal (I-TIP) provides a single entry point for all information compiled by the WTO on trade policy measures. Containing information on over 25,000 measures, I-TIP covers both tariff and non-tariff measures affecting trade in goods as well as information on preferential trade agreements and the accession commitments of WTO members. Later in 2013, it will be expanded to cover trade in services and other areas. I-TIP was made available to the public for the first time on Trade Data Day, which took place at the WTO on 16 January 2013.

Global value chains (GVCs) have been a feature of the international economic architecture for many years, but scholarly interest in the phenomenon is more recent. Today that interest is intense, emanating from an array of academic disciplines as well as from the policy world. This volume, jointly produced by the Fung Global Institute and the World Trade Organization, is an attempt to capture the core features and themes of the exploding literature on GVCs. Our review of the literature demonstrates the eclectic nature of existing work on GVCs, which in turn is a reflection of the complex character of these international production arrangements. Apart from seeking to capture the different strands of the literature, it is our hope that the volume may contribute to a deeper mutual understanding among different disciplinary perspectives, including economic, political economy, business and management, development, social, and public policy analyses.
