What we do
The WTO operates the global system of trade rules, guaranteeing WTO member governments important trade rights.
What we stand for
Simple, fundamental principles form the foundations of the multilateral trading system. These principles have lain at the core of all WTO activities since its creation in 1995.
Who we are
The WTO is run by its member governments. All major decisions are made by the membership as a whole, either by ministers (who meet at least once every two years) or by their ambassadors or delegates (who meet regularly at the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva). Decisions are normally taken by consensus. The WTO Secretariat coordinates the activities of the WTO.
Foreword
The world has been confronted by multiple challenges in recent years. From the devastating health and economic consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the growing impact of climate change, these crises have risen alongside longstanding global concerns, such as alleviating poverty and fostering sustainable development. International trade has a pivotal role to play in addressing these pressing issues. However, the trading of certain products can entail risks, necessitating the need for measures such as export licences and restrictions in certain circumstances to manage these risks.
Séptima Conferencia Ministerial (CM7)
La Séptima Conferencia Ministerial de la OMC se celebró en Ginebra (Suiza) del 30 de noviembre al 2 de diciembre de 2009 y estuvo presidida por el Sr. Andrés Velasco (Chile).
Cinquième conférence ministérielle (CM5)
La cinquième Conférence ministérielle de l’OMC s’est tenue à Cancún (Mexique) du 10 au 14 septembre 2003 et a été présidée par M. Luis Ernesto Derbez (Mexique).
Dixième conférence ministérielle (CM10)
La dixième Conférence ministérielle de l’OMC s’est tenue à Nairobi (Kenya) du 15 au 19 décembre 2015 et a été présidée par Mme Amina C. Mohamed (Kenya).
Septième conférence ministérielle (CM7)
La septième Conférence ministérielle de l’OMC s’est tenue à Genève (Suisse) du 30 novembre au 2 décembre 2009 et a été présidée par M. Andrés Velasco (Chili).
Troisième conférence ministérielle (CM3)
La troisième Conférence ministérielle de l’OMC s’est tenue à Seattle (États-Unis) du 30 novembre au 3 décembre 1999 et a été présidée par Mme Charlene Barshefsky (États-Unis).
Préface
La Conférence ministérielle est l’organe de décision suprême de l’OMC et se réunit habituellement tous les deux ans. Dans l’intervalle entre les réunions de la Conférence ministérielle, les fonctions de celle-ci sont exercées par le Conseil général.
Douzième conférence ministérielle de l’OMC (CM12)
La douzième Conférence ministérielle de l’OMC s’est tenue à Genève du 12 au 17 juin 2022 et a été présidée par M. Timur Suleimenov (Kazakhstan).
Décima Conferencia Ministerial (CM10)
La Décima Conferencia Ministerial de la OMC se celebró en Nairobi (Kenya) del 15 al 19 de diciembre de 2015 y estuvo presidida por la Sra. Amina C. Mohamed (Kenya).
