Trade and development
In 2010 the Committee on Trade and Development (CTD) concluded negotiations on a transparency mechanism for preferential trade agreements, which was subsequently adopted by the General Council. Other issues discussed by the CTD and its Sub-Committee on Least-Developed Countries (LDC s) included capacity-building initiatives, market access for LDC s, the Aid for Trade initiative and the WTO’s technical assistance activities.
Introduction
The Trade Policy Review Mechanism (TPRM) was first established on a trial basis by the GATT contracting parties in April 1989. The Mechanism became a permanent feature of the World Trade Organization under the Marrakesh Agreement which established the WTO in January 1995.
