El tema principal del Informe sobre el Comercio Mundial 2006 son las “subvenciones”. En el Informe se examina esta esfera de políticas y se estudia la manera en que se definen las subvenciones, qué es lo que puede decir la teoría económica acerca de ellas, por qué los gobiernos las utilizan, cuáles son los principales sectores en que se aplican las subvenciones y la función del Acuerdo sobre la OMC en la regulación de las subvenciones en el contexto del comercio internacional.

Lamy: “The world economy needs more trade to stave off recession”: Director-General Pascal Lamy, in his annual report to members on developments in the international trading environment, said: “The world needs a renewed and stronger commitment from all Governments to revitalize the multilateral trading system that can restore economic certainty at a time when it is badly needed. The policy determination to resist inward-looking policies seems to be faltering in some countries, even as the world economy needs more trade to stave off recession.”

Lamy hails transparency as the best insurance policy against protectionism: Director-General Pascal Lamy, in presenting his monitoring report (covering the period mid-October 2012 to mid-May 2013) to the Trade Policy Review Body on 19 July 2013, said: “I am convinced that a strong and vibrant multilateral trading system remains the best insurance policy to overcome protectionist threats”. He said that “while there is no need for alarmist or dramatic announcements, trade restrictive measures continue to be adopted and the stock of existing measures remains high”.
